Contact your local emergency services first. In the US and Canada dial 911, in the UK 999, in Australia 000, and across the EU 112. Once you're safe, tell us at safety@aligned.app so we can act on the account.

• Photo verification. A short guided selfie check confirms the person in the photos is the person holding the phone, and earns a blue check. It is not an identity or background check.
• Automated photo screening. Profile photos are checked for explicit content, violence and other prohibited material before they go live.
• Reporting and blocking. Any profile or message can be reported from its menu. Blocking is immediate and mutual — you vanish from each other's discovery.
• Hidden contacts. You can upload your phone contacts to make sure you never see them here. Only SHA-256 hashes leave your device; we never receive the actual numbers.
• Human review. Reports are triaged by people, not only by software.
• Pause or delete. You can disappear from discovery without losing your profile, or delete your account outright, both from inside the app.

Aligned does not run criminal background checks on members. Verification confirms a likeness, not a history — so the precautions below still matter.

• Video or voice chat first if you're unsure. It's the quickest way to confirm someone is who they appear to be.
• Keep conversations on Aligned until you're comfortable. Moving to another app early is a common way to avoid moderation.
• Do a quick search. Their name and photos elsewhere online should broadly line up with what they've told you.
• Trust hesitation. If something feels off, it's reason enough not to go.

• Meet somewhere public and busy the first few times — a café, a bar, a gallery. Not a home, and not anywhere isolated.
• Tell a friend where you're going, who with, and when you expect to be back. Share your live location if your phone supports it.
• Arrange your own transport there and back, so leaving is always your decision.
• Keep your phone charged, and keep your bag, drink and belongings with you.
• Don't leave a drink unattended, and don't feel obliged to keep pace with anyone.
• Leave whenever you want. You never owe anyone an explanation, an apology, or more of your evening.

Romance fraud follows a recognisable script. Be sceptical if someone:

• Asks you for money, gift cards, crypto or bank details — for any reason at all, however sympathetic the story.
• Offers investment or trading advice, or invites you into a group or platform to grow your money.
• Declares strong feelings unusually fast, then invents a crisis that needs your help.
• Always has a reason they can't video chat or meet.
• Pushes to move to WhatsApp, Telegram or email almost immediately.
• Claims to be working abroad, on a rig, or in the military and unreachable through normal means.

Never send money to someone you haven't met. Report and block them instead — it protects the next person as well as you.

• Don't put your home or work address, financial details, or government ID numbers in your profile or chats.
• Watch the background of your photos for street names, house numbers, uniforms or anything that pins down where you are.
• Use per-field visibility to hide anything on your profile you'd rather not broadcast.
• Mark a fact private and your AI genuinely stops being able to share it — it detaches from the retrieval layer entirely.

A Vibe Chat is with an AI persona, not the person. It answers from what its owner has taught it and it will tell you when it doesn't know something rather than inventing an answer — but it is still software, and it can be imperfect or incomplete.

Treat it as a way to understand someone, not as verification of them. Nothing an AI tells you replaces meeting a person and forming your own judgement.
